Chelation

What is Chelation Therapy?

Chelation therapy is an intravenous treatment that is a safe, effective, and inexpensive treatment to increase blood flow in victims of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is the build up of fatty substances, cholesterol, cellular waste products, calcium, and other metallic elements within arteries. Chelation therapy utilizes ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA) intravenously to remove unwanted metals from the body.

What is EDTA?

EDTA is an amino acid often used in cases of heavy metal poisoning such cadmium, lead, and mercury because it can bind these metals, creating a compound that can be excreted in the urine. EDTA is also used to normalize levels of lead and cadmium, which correlates with high blood pressure. Besides binding heavy metals, EDTA also “chelates” (naturally seeks out and binds) calcium, one of the components of atherosclerotic plaque. In the early 1960s, this led to speculation that EDTA could remove calcium deposits from buildups in arteries. The idea was that once the calcium was removed by regular treatments of EDTA, the remaining elements in the plaque would break up and the plaque would clear away. The narrowed arteries would be restored to their former state.

Do I Need Chelation Therapy and How Will I Benefit?

If you suffer from chest or leg pain during exercise; shortness of breath; painful, discolored feet; transient loss of vision; paralysis; or rapidly failing memory, please consult with The Veres Group Family Practice Clinic. Physicians have used chelation therapy for more than forty years to treat a number of conditions including:

  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Diabetic Arterial Disease
  • Decreased Mental Function from Vascular Disease
  • High Blood Pressure

Chelation therapy can benefit you by preventing severe blockage of the arteries, which can lead to heart attacks. By preventing the problem before it reaches you, you save on cost by avoiding surgery. If you feel you that you can benefit from chelation therapy, please contact us to schedule an appointment.

DOT Physicals

The Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration requires individuals with a commercial driver license (CDL) to pass a physical examination every two years. The Veres Group can perform DOT physicals and subsequently certify commercial drivers according to DOT regulations.

DOT Physicals

Certain medical conditions such as cardiac disease, diabetes, limb deformities or vision/hearing problems may require more frequent certification.

The components of this physical include:

  • Basic Physical
  • Urinalysis
  • Whisper test (If unable to pass- audiogram required)
  • Visual Acuity
  • Urine Drug Screening
  • Pre-employment and return to work

Certain health conditions may limit medical card certification for less than the standard two years.

Drug Screening

The Veres Group offers drug screening for employers that suffer from problems associated with employee drug abuse in the workplace. Employees that abuse drugs:

  • Have on-the-job accidents
  • Are less productive

Spirometry

What is Spirometry?

Spirometry is the measurement of breath that tests the lungs’ pulmonary function. A device called a spirometer is used to measure the lungs’ volume and flow of air during inhalation and exhalation. Spirometry is used to diagnose and monitor lung problems such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or asthma.

Spirometry measures:

  • Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) – The maximum volume of air measured during exhalation.
  • Forced Expiratory Volume (FEV1) – The volume of air expelled during the first second of exhalation.

How is Spirometry performed?

Spirometry is performed by having the patient breathe into a mouthpiece attached to the spirometer. The patient will have to take the deepest breath possible then exhale into the mouthpiece while measurements are taken from the spirometer. Some tests performed will require the patient to take a series of breaths from normal to powerful.
